FOX SPORTS NET CELEBRITY CUP GOLF TOURNAMENT AT INVERNESS HOTEL & GOLF CLUB RAISES $130,000
Money Benefits Colorado Youth at Risk & Colorado Avalanche Community Fund
DENVER, Colo. ? August 21, 2000 was a great day for sports, celebrities and philanthropy at Inverness Hotel & Golf Club where the FOX Sports Net Celebrity Cup 9th Annual Golf Tournament raised $130,000 for local aid organizations ? Colorado Youth at Risk, a program that empowers young people and those around them through community-based mentoring and leadership programs, and the Robert R. McCormick Tribune Foundation which supports children?s charities.
Winning teams and individuals were honored after the tournament with an awards celebration recognizing the generous efforts and good sportsmanship of local humanitarians, sports heroes and television personalities.
Results of the tournament follow:
* Low Gross Winner: FOX Sports Team ? celebrity captain Dave Reed of the Colorado Avalanche, Bob Thompson, Dave Williams and Dick Myers
* Low Net Winner: Inverness Hotel & Golf Club Team ? celebrity captain Ryan Bowen of the Denver Nuggets, John Wagner, Mike Schutts and Tom Cappuci
* Individual Low Gross Winner: Mike D?Antoni of FOX Sports.
* Individual Low Net Winner: Doug Hansen of RMI.net
* Closest to the Hole Winner: former Denver Bronco Jim Ryan
Major sponsors of the FOX Sports Net Celebrity Cup 9th Annual Golf Tournament were Inverness Hotel & Golf Club, RMI.net, New Edge Networks, American Airlines, Reyn Spooner and The Palm Restaurant. Local sports stars participating included members of the Colorado Avalanche (Aaron Miller, Dave Reed, Bob Hartley and Jacques Cloutier) and Denver Nuggets (Popeye Jones and Ryan Bowen), Bronco alumni (Bobby Anderson, Mark Cooper, Ron Egloff, Rich Karlis, Haven Moses, Jim Ryan, Dave Studdard and David Treadwell), and Ricardo Patton from the University of Colorado.
FOX Sports will air a highlight show on September 2nd at 12:30 p.m., September 5th at 2:00 p.m. and September 14th at 9:30 p.m.
